FMGRS are looking for a motivated, detail-focused Panel Technician to join their busy workshop in Durham, DH1 2RS – and no, you don’t need years of experience to get started.
Vacancy Detail
As a Panel Beater Apprentice, you'll learn the skills needed to repair and restore damaged vehicle bodywork to manufacturer standards while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.
You'll gain hands-on experience in a busy bodyshop, supported by an experienced mentor who will guide your development throughout your apprenticeship. Alongside your workplace training, you'll attend college and complete off-the-job learning to build the technical knowledge and practical skills needed for a successful career in the automotive repair industry.
As part of your apprenticeship, you will:
• Attend all college sessions and training courses as required.
• Complete coursework and assessments on time as part of your apprenticeship programme.
• Learn how to inspect and assess vehicle damage.
• Remove and replace non-structural body panels.
• Assist with repairing or replacing damaged vehicle panels using approved repair techniques.
• Remove, refit and align body panels, doors, bumpers and other vehicle components.
• Remove and reinstall mechanical, electrical and trim components where required.
• Carry out cosmetic panel alignment to manufacturer standards.
• Learn how to identify and report faults, including basic electrical issues.
• Follow health and safety procedures and use bodyshop equipment safely.
• Develop your technical skills under the supervision of experienced technicians while delivering high-quality repairs.
Qualifications Required
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths – Grade 4/C (Essential)
Personal Qualities
• Problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn technical processes.
• Time management at each booking is essential.
• Ability to follow instructions and take constructive feedback.
Skills Required
• Interpersonal and communication skills should be excellent standard.
• Attention to detail.
