Brief Description

This apprenticeship is the Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue at their depot in Kempston, MK42 7NR. The right candidate will work alongside the Fire and Rescues qualified Technicians to receive extensive training in maintaining Heavy vehicles.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The purpose of this job description is to indicate the general level of responsibility of the post. The detailed duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character or level of responsibility.

(Under the guidance and supervision of a qualified Motor Vehicle Transport Technician)

• To assist servicing and repair and maintenance duties of services vehicles, appliances and plant and equipment, as directed by the Transport Support Officer (TSO) or Workshop Manager (WM) or Transport and Engineering Manager (TEM).
• To assist in vehicle servicing as laid down in the Service vehicle servicing schedules.
• To assist in servicing and repairs of Service ladders, operational equipment, pumping equipment and plant as laid down in the Service repair and servicing schedules.
• To assist in minor body and paintwork repairs to vehicles and appliances.
• To assist in keeping the working environment in a clean and tidy condition on a regular basis and comply with the Health and Safety and Energy Conservation policies.
• To ensure that job cards, booking forms and other records are completed as required, and that all spare parts used are properly recorded.
• To attend such training/personal development courses as may be considered necessary to the role of Vehicle Technician Apprentice.
• To provide the Transport Support Officer (TSO) with the correct description and part number for all parts required for the vehicle, plant and equipment.
• To assist in the movement of ancillary vehicles to Fire Service or other premises as directed. (Only vehicles for which an appropriate licence is held).
• To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post and responsibility of Vehicle Technician Apprentice as directed from time to time by the Transport Support Officer, Workshop Manager or Transport and Engineering Manager.

Qualifications Required

You have GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications).
