Brief Description

This apprenticeship is the level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with A Hughes & Sons in Lincoln, LN6 4RL. As an HGV Mechanic Technician apprentice, you will learn how to maintain and repair Volvo trucks and buses to the manufacturers and DSVA standard.

Looking for a hands-on role where no two days are the same? As an HGV Technician Apprentice, you’ll be part of the team that keeps trucks and buses on the road and businesses moving. From safety checks to fault-finding, you’ll learn the skills to become a qualified expert in a vital industry — all while earning as you learn!

There’s more to keeping HGVs on the road than meets the eye! As an HGV Technician Apprentice, you’ll discover how vital regular safety checks, Operator (O) Licence rules, and legal standards are to keeping fleets moving. You’ll also receive hands-on, expert training to meet both manufacturer and DVSA requirements.
Here’s what you’ll be learning:
As an apprentice HGV Technician, you’ll be at the heart of keeping heavy vehicles safe and reliable. Along the way, you’ll learn how to:
• Service vehicles – carrying out key inspections to keep them road-ready.
• Maintain vehicles – taking on both routine and preventative maintenance tasks.
• Repair – fixing and replacing worn or damaged parts.
• Diagnose – using cutting-edge tech to spot and solve system faults.

Training delivery.
In this programme, all aspects of heavy vehicle technology are embedded in this dedicated programme and involves a mix of academic learning and on-the-job training.
• Practical learning in the workplace, shadowing your mentor and carrying out the work while being supervised.
• Online studies, completing workbooks and job cards, attending online sessions and virtual classes with your Development Coach, all done during your working day.
• Attending block release to the Volvo Training Academy in Derby, DE24 8NB every 2 months. All costs of your hotel food and accommodation plus all travel arrangements are covered by A Hughes & Sons

What you’ll achieve.
On successfully completing the Volvo Apprentice Programme, you will gain national qualifications recognised throughout the automotive industry:
• Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Level 3

Salary:
Under 18 £8.00
18-20 £10.50
Over 21 £12.50

Qualifications Required

• No previous automotive qualifications are needed as the level 3 apprenticeship incorporates level 1 and 2.
• You must have GCSE 9-4 (A* - C) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths and we will support you to help develop your knowledge further.
• Predicated/MOCK grades are acceptable at application stage, however all job offers will be conditional pending exam results.

Skills Required
