Brief Description

This apprenticeship is the Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with Chesire West Recycling in Winsford, CW7 3PD. The right candidate will work alongside Chesire West Recycling qualified Technicians to receive extensive training in maintaining HGVs.

what will it take to become A HGV Technician with Chesire West Recycling:

•Ability to attend a residential block release - 1 week every 2 months, 16 blocks over a 32-month program.
•Under Supervision - To undertake Major & Minor repairs to HGV, Trailers & other vehicles within the company fleet.
•Under Supervision – Performing planned maintenance, safety inspections & general preventative repairs.
•Under Supervision – Ability to identify and diagnose faults to vehicles & plant.
•Under Supervision – Undertake repairs & maintenance to alternative developing fuel type vehicles including Electric, Hydrogen, HVO.
•Under Supervision – Ensure the working environment is kept clean & tidy.

The Heavy Vehicle Technicians jobs fall into three main categories:
• Maintenance – replacing any parts showing signs of wear and tear, oil changes etc
• Repairs – repair or replacing anything damaged or faulty
With the increase in technology involved with vehicles today, you will also receive extensive training in how to use diagnostic equipment to solve faults in the Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Your training won’t be restricted to just the mechanical side but will include the pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems and ‘all electric’ vehicles as well as hybrids.

Qualifications Required

• No previous automotive qualifications are required
• GCSE 9 - 4 (A* - C) or Function Skills Level 2 in Maths and Enlglish
• Predicted GCSE grades are acceptable - please note the apprenticeship offer is subject to final GCSE results
