Brief Description
This apprenticeship is the level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with Purfleet Commercials (PCL) in Waltham Cross, EN8 7LX. As an apprentice, you will learn how to maintain and repair large commercial vehicles to the manufacturer and DSVA standard.
Vacancy Detail
Purfleet Commercials are MAN Truck & Bus leading approved dealer and as their training provider, Remit are recruiting for an apprentice Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician for their Waltham Cross depot.
There is a lot involved in keeping HGVs on the road, so you will gain full understanding of the importance of 6-week checks, Operators (O) licence’s and legal obligations and as a Technician apprentice, you will receive training to the manufacturer and DVSAs standard.
The Heavy Vehicle Technicians jobs fall into three main categories:
• Servicing – regular preventive checks in accordance with DVSA regulations
• Maintenance – replacing any parts showing signs of wear and tear, oil changes etc
• Diagnostics – using the latest diagnostic equipment
As an apprentice, you will observe, learn and gain an understanding of a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff.
Wages for 16-17 is £7 per hour and a 40 hour week.
For 18+ it would be a 45 hour week rotating early / late shift on a weekly basis and every other Saturday. Minimum rate for an 18-year-old would be £7.00 per hour, after a successful three month probation period, which can increase to £7.50 per hour.
Qualifications Required
• No previous automotive qualifications are needed as the level 3 apprenticeship incorporates level 1 and 2.
• Minimum entry requirements are a GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths.

Skills Required
You will need to be comfortable with a wide range of vehicles such as trucks, buses, agricultural machinery and plant equipment. Being a Heavy Vehicle technician requires a reasonable level of physical strength and stamina
Future Prospects
As an apprentice, you will be a full time employee from the very beginning and while training you’ll be earning your place as an integral part of the workshop team.
Once you have achieved your qualification, you will have further opportunities to progress to positions such as Senior Technician.
