Brief Description

This apprenticeship is the level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with Acorn Trucks in West Thurrock, RM20 4AR. As an apprentice, you will learn how to maintain and repair large commercial vehicles to the manufacturers and DSVA standard.

There is a lot involved in keeping HGVs on the road, so you will gain a full understanding of the importance of 6-week checks, Operators (O) licence’s and legal obligations and as a Technician apprentice, you will receive training to the manufacturer and DVSAs standard.

A Heavy Vehicle Service Technician will inspect, maintain, and repair large vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes and over such as HGVs and buses.
• Servicing – carrying out checks
• Maintenance – replacing/repairing engine parts
• Diagnostics – using the latest diagnostic equipment

As an apprentice, you will observe, learn and gain an understanding of a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff.

Wages
Over 18 £7.50 45 hours a week and for those under 18 £6.50 40 hours a week

Qualifications Required

• No previous automotive qualifications are required
• If you have achieved a level 2 or level 3 in a similar field, you may not be eligible for this apprenticeship
• Minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) grades of 9 - 3 (A* - C) in English and Maths

• Willingness to learn new skills and knowledge
• Ability to work within a team
• A keen interest and passion for heavy vehicle technology

Skills Required

You will need to be comfortable with a wide range of vehicles such as trucks, buses, agricultural machinery and plant equipment. Being a Heavy Vehicle technician requires a reasonable level of physical strength and stamina
