Brief Description
This apprenticeship is the level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician standard programme with Volvo Truck & Bus in Teesside, TS18 2RF. As an apprentice, you will learn how to maintain and repair large commercial vehicles to the manufacturers and DSVA standard.

There is a lot involved in keeping HGVs on the road, so you will gain a full understanding of the importance of 6-week checks, Operators (O) licence’s and legal obligations and as a Technician apprentice, you will receive training to the manufacturer and DVSAs standard
A Heavy Vehicle Service Technician will inspect, maintain, and repair large vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes and over such as HGV's and buses.
• Servicing – carrying out checks
• Maintenance – replacing / repairing engine parts
• Diagnostics – using the latest diagnostic equipment
You will spend most of your time working within the depot gaining hands-on experience and on the job training under the supervision of a trained mentor.
During your residential training at the Volvo Truck & Bus Training Academy (Remit – Derby), you will cover topics such as engines, transmissions and learn about the latest electronic diagnostic techniques covering all vehicle systems.
Qualifications Required
No previous automotive qualifications are required however you must have GCSE 9-4 (A*- C) or functional skills Level 2 in English and Maths.
Predicted grades are acceptable, although apprenticeship offers will be dependent on final exam results.

Future Prospects
As an apprentice, you will be a full time employee from the very beginning and while training you’ll be earning your place as an integral part of the workshop team.
Once you have achieved your qualification, you will have further opportunities to progress to positions such as Shift Supervisor or Service Manager.
