Brief Description

Are you wanting to start your career in the Automotive Industry? Are you hands-on and passionate about Vehicles? Balgores Motors is looking for a Vehicle Panel Apprentice Technician to join their expert team!

Vacancy Detail

As an apprentice, you will learn how to repair and sometimes replace, damaged bodywork using specialist techniques with traditional tools and the latest equipment.
• Assessing a vehicle to establish the extent of damage
• Based on the initial assessment, deciding whether to repair or replace bodywork
• Removing damaged panels
• Refitting new/repaired panels
• Repairing damaged bodywork using traditional dolly and hammer or more modern techniques
• Repairing small dents, holes, or corroded areas using a compound filler

A certain amount of administration and customer interaction is also required:
• Keeping a record of work carried out and time taken
• Liaising with the customer or insurance company
• Providing quotations and estimations

As part of the service a bodyshop offers, you may also carry out valeting, to ensure the vehicles look as good as new.
• Wash down the outside of the car to remove dirt and mud
• Polish the windows, wheels, door handles, and mirrors

Whilst the vast majority of work is accident-related, panel beaters also carry out cosmetic work on behalf of owners keen to give their beloved cars the motoring equivalent of a facelift!

Wage is at least National Minimum for an apprentice and depends on experience.

Hours can vary slightly from starting at 8.30 or 9am.

Qualifications Required

If you have achieved a level 2 or higher in body repair you may not be eligible for the apprenticeship
Minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) grades of 9* - 4 (A-C) in English and Maths.

Personal Qualities

The job involves numerous activities and panel beaters will need to be comfortable with a wide range of vehicles. As a panel beater, you will often be working as part of a team, so good communication and being able to follow instructions would be good skills to have.

Other Information

Panel beating involves manual labour and requires a reasonable level of physical strength and stamina. It is important that panel beaters always use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety procedures.
