The role will encompass full training to best industry standards in all aspects of tyre management and include:
Typical duties can include:
Regular inspections of commercial vehicles to identify faults and address them
Accurate fitting and repair of tyres to a wide range of commercial and specialist vehicles
Responding to emergency call outs to commercial vehicles.
Safe demounting, repair & remounting of tubeless tyres (including Wide Singles), inner tubes, specialist tyres and Multi Piece Split Rim wheels.
Safe tyre regrooving – including assessment of tyre condition and knowledge of tyre manufacturer’s regrooving patterns.
Stock control, ensuring the mobile unit is equipped with tyres of correct specification

Future Prospects : On successful completion of your Level 2 apprenticeship along with functional skills in Maths and English and ICT (where required) you will be a fully qualified Specialist Tyre Operative with the skills to continue your career in the industry.
Training to be Provided : Specialist Tyre Operatives (STO) are highly skilled and required to work on tyres for a range of vehicle types including, heavy goods, commercial, plant and agricultural from specially equipped mobile units. Depending on the organisation and nature of business, this role can also be referred to as Commercial Tyre Technician or Fitter, or Agricultural and Plant Tyre Technician or Fitter. This apprenticeship will ensure that Specialist Tyre Operatives (STO) will be able to carry out both scheduled tyre maintenance and emergency response work in a wide variety of locations ranging from public highways, motorways and construction sites to docks, military facilities and airports. This programme has a high degree of focus on safety of both the technicians and others in the vicinity, by teaching the use of detailed risk assessments as each vehicle and location are unique in nature.
This Specialist Tyre Operative Apprenticeship is delivered by Remit Group. Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release at the Remit Academy in Derby. This means you will be required to stay in a hotel for 6 separate weeks (Mon – Fri) over the duration of the programme. All associated costs for training are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you. You will also be assigned a dedicated Development Coach who will visit you every 4-6 weeks at the workplace, giving 1-2-1 information, advice and guidance. As a result, you will receive the following qualification: Functional Skills in English & maths (if required).
Other Information : This role requires Saturday working and the working hours are 46.5 per week
Candidates must be 18 or over and have a Full driving license to meet business needs.
Things to consider : Heavy lifting and handling, and working in all weather conditions and environments are part and parcel of this job role
Candidates must be committed to completing the 18 month qualification.
