The IT HelpDesk Support Technician provides first line immediate support to callers to the IT department.

User Support/Helpdesk Operator:

Maintain and operate the IT Helpdesk Systems
Provide First Line Support and troubleshoot user?s issues with IT Systems
Maintains departmental record keeping-asset lists etc.
Serves as contact for users to obtain clarification of problems and to identify solutions or corrective actions
Assists with:

Maintaining the network's physical and logical structures, including all network connections
Maintaining network support software
Installing and testing network hardware and software, performs routine maintenance, and applies vendor updates to software
Preparing and analysing statistics on network utilisation and availability
Performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources
Product evaluations of upgraded or new hardware and software identifying strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits to the business
Communication with vendors, users, management, and IT staff
Performing routine backups and archival of files stored on the network to assist in recovery efforts
Analysis of user support statistics and other data and recommends appropriate measures
Identification of high maintenance support areas, and suggest actions and/or processes to mitigate those problems
Maintaining the operating system and security software utilised on the network, including the addition of new users to the network and establishment of rights and privileges
Establishing policies and procedures for use of network facilities
Maintaining the local area network or wide area network, cable and hub installations, inventories, and other related duties
The formation, execution and monitoring of system security policies
Systems Administration:-

Assist with the following:

Create logins, user profiles, and other essential systems maintenance tasks
Perform regular backups of systems data following established guidelines
Monitor systems for stability and performance, making modifications as necessary to ensure the optimal running of IT systems
Create and deploy systems and application software packages to ensure ease of use and rapidity of deployment
Monitor, modify and maintain Active Directory and Group Policy implementations
Network Administration:

Wireless LAN administration
Monitoring, and troubleshooting of network issues
Network Cabling, where required
Professional Training and development:

Keep abreast of advancements in emerging technology, design and techniques
Highlight those technologies which, if employed, could help Synseal gain a competitive advantage
Other:

Act as an agent for change by suggesting methods and procedures for improving existing IT and business practices
Any other reasonable tasks as dictated by the business

Qualifications Required

5 GCSE's graded A-C/4 and above or equivalent in English, maths and ICT.

Able to work independently and as part of a team providing high quality, customer-focused services to staff from all areas of the business
Able to complete tasks on time and within established parameters
Able to use discretion and judgment in confidential matters
Ability to work in a professional, respectful manner with those who are content experts, but not technical experts

Skills Required

Good all-round knowledge of the following:

Networking (including DNS, TCP/IP,routing,Cat5e installation and network
switching and routing)
PC architecture, including trouble shooting hardware problems
Microsoft Windows XP
Network printers, preferably HP
Ability to effectively troubleshoot problems with user?s systems
Ability to learn new operating systems or application software packages, infrastructure hardware and techniques

After successfully completing the apprenticeship there is an opportunity for future progression, contract to be extended or made permanent.

Training to be provided
The Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship will enable you to gain the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours to provide first or second line support to internal and external customers and stakeholders to help them be productive when using technology. By the end of the programme, you will be able to set people up on their IT systems and provide support when needed, rectifying issues to maintain colleagues? and the organisation?s productivity. Job roles include helpdesk technician, first or second line IT support roles or Network support roles.

As a result, you will receive the following qualification:

Infrastructure Technician (Standard) Level 3
Functional Skills in English and maths (if required)
MTA Network Fundamentals/CompTIA A+/ CompTIA Network+ professional qualification (Choose one option)
